Students from the Rwanda Defence Force Senior Command and Staff College (RDFJCSC) recently visited Kagitumba for a study tour dedicated to remembering the Genocide against the Tutsi and learning from Rwanda’s rich history.
A Purposeful Visit
The tour, held from April 8 to April 10, 2026, took place during the national mourning period marking the 32nd commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The visit aimed to help students connect with Rwanda’s past while strengthening values like patriotism, courage, and dedication.
Exploring the Liberation Struggle
During the three days, students were guided through Rwanda’s liberation history, with a special focus on the start of the struggle at the Kagitumba border on October 1, 1990. They learned how the Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA) began its mission to repatriate refugees, protect the rights of all Rwandans, and build a nation based on unity and reconciliation. The students also explored how this struggle helped stop the Genocide and restore peace and security across the country.
