President Paul Kagame has met with Monica Geingos, former First Lady of Namibia and Chancellor of Kepler College, to discuss education and ways of expanding opportunities for young people in Rwanda and across Africa.
The meeting took place in Kigali on August 26, 2026.
Kagame Meets Monica Geingos
According to a message posted on the X account of the Office of the President, Village Urugwiro, President Kagame received Monica Geingos at his office while she was in Rwanda to attend the Africa Mindset Reset Forum.
The message said: “President Kagame received Monica Geingos, former First Lady of Namibia and Chancellor of Kepler College, who is in Kigali to attend the Africa Mindset Reset Forum. They discussed the importance of education and access to opportunities aimed at empowering young people in Rwanda and across the continent.”
The discussion focused on the importance of education and increasing access to opportunities that can help young people develop their skills, find employment and contribute to the development of their communities and countries.
Monica Geingos and Her Role at Kepler College
Monica Geingos was appointed Chancellor of Kepler College in July 2024.
She served as Namibia’s First Lady from 2015 until February 2024, when her husband, former Namibian President Hage Geingob, died following an illness.
During her time as First Lady, Geingos was involved in initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of Namibians and Africans more broadly.
She also founded the One Economy Foundation, an organisation focused on addressing social and economic challenges affecting communities.

How Kepler Developed in Rwanda
Kepler was established in 2004 under the name Orphans of Rwanda.
In 2008, the organisation changed its name to Generation Rwanda and focused on supporting talented students from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue higher education in Rwanda.
In 2013, the organisation changed its approach and introduced a programme designed to help students gain employment opportunities after completing their studies.
Kepler later partnered with Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) in the United States. Through this partnership, students were able to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Kepler Becomes a Private University
In 2022, the Government of Rwanda authorised Kepler College to operate as a private university in Rwanda.
This followed several years during which Kepler operated as an academic programme through which students earned degrees from Southern New Hampshire University.
Today, Kepler’s work reflects the growing focus on connecting higher education with employment opportunities and practical skills for young people.

Education as a Tool for Youth Empowerment
The meeting between President Kagame and Monica Geingos highlights the importance of education in preparing young people for future opportunities.
