I&M Bank Rwanda has reported a 62% increase in profit after tax for the first six months of 2026, reaching Rwf18.8 billion, compared with the same period in 2025.
The bank attributed the strong performance to increased revenue, higher lending activity and growth in customer deposits.
Operating Income Increases
The bank’s financial results for the six months ending June 30, 2026, were released on August 24. They show that the bank continued to expand its operations while investing in technology, employee development, customer service and wider access to financial services.
I&M Bank Rwanda’s operating income increased by 40% to Rwf49.1 billion.
Interest income from loans also increased by 31%, supported by the continued expansion of the bank’s loan portfolio, higher customer deposits and effective management of its assets.
Loans Reach Rwf638.4 Billion
The bank’s outstanding loans increased by 31% since the beginning of 2026, reaching Rwf638.4 billion.
I&M Bank Rwanda said the increase was mainly driven by growing demand from customers, particularly businesses and other sectors contributing to Rwanda’s economic growth.
Customer deposits also increased by 25%, giving the bank greater capacity to provide loans.
Meanwhile, the bank’s total assets grew by 23%, surpassing Rwf1.3 trillion.
Investment in Technology and Customer Services
The bank said its growth was achieved while continuing to invest in technology, cybersecurity, employee development, customer service and the expansion of its service channels.
These investments contributed to a 22% increase in operating expenses.
During the first half of 2026, the bank opened new branches in Rubavu and Gisozi and introduced agent banking services to make financial services more accessible to more people.
