A security guard protecting Inganji SACCO, Nyamyumba Branch, in Nyamyumba Sector, Rubavu District, shot and killed a person suspected of attempting to break into the financial institution.
The incident occurred during the night of Friday, September 11, into Saturday, September 12, 2026, when the suspect was reportedly attempting to climb over the SACCO’s perimeter wall.
Suspected Thief Shot While Climbing Wall
According to information provided by authorities, the security guard shot the suspected thief as he attempted to climb over the perimeter wall of Inganji SACCO.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation as authorities work to establish exactly what happened.
Rwanda National Police spokesperson for the Western Province, SP Sylvestre Twajamahoro, confirmed the incident to Mama Urwagasabo TV.
SP Twajamahoro said: “It is true that this happened. The security guard shot a person who was climbing over the perimeter wall of the SACCO microfinance institution.”
He added that relevant authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. he said: “We will provide more information once we know the findings of the investigation.”
Investigations Ongoing
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting and establish what exactly happened at the SACCO.
