Rwanda will now be represented in matters of security and defence in Belarus, after the country’s Ministry of Defence accepted Colonel Anthony Mpagaze as Defence Attaché at the Embassy of Rwanda in Belarus.
Based in Moscow While Overseeing Belarus
Colonel Anthony Mpagaze will not be based in Belarus itself, but will oversee Rwanda’s interests there while stationed in Moscow, Russia, where he already carries out duties related to his position.
Official Confirmation at Belarus Ministry of Defence
This week, Colonel Mpagaze was received at the Ministry of Defence of Belarus to be officially confirmed in the role.
During the ceremony, he held talks with officials of the ministry on how the two countries could continue to strengthen cooperation in defence and security.
Rwanda’s Ambassador Attends the Ceremony
The event was also attended by Rwanda’s Ambassador to Russia and Belarus, Gen Maj Joseph Nzabamwita.
Strengthening Defence Cooperation
A Defence Attaché is a military officer assigned to an embassy, representing the armed forces of their country abroad. They are responsible for linking the two nations’ defence institutions, promoting military cooperation, and monitoring joint security initiatives.
Rwanda’s appointment of its first Defence Attaché in Belarus marks another step in the relationship between the two countries, particularly in reinforcing collaboration between their defence and security sectors.
