Prime Minister Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva has said Rwanda is ready to further strengthen cooperation with Lesotho in governance to benefit citizens of both countries. He made the remarks during a speech at the opening of a governance conference in Lesotho, which was officially launched by Lesotho’s Prime Minister, Samuel Matekane. The event was held virtually.

Rwanda’s Governance Journey
The Prime Minister highlighted Rwanda’s governance and development journey, emphasizing that cooperation between Lesotho and Rwanda continues to grow and strengthen.

He said: “We greatly appreciate the exchanges of ideas and knowledge-sharing between our two countries over the past years, including participation in the Leaders’ Retreat in Lesotho, as it reflects our shared commitment to learning from each other’s experiences. We are ready to further strengthen this cooperation so that it benefits the citizens of both countries.”
Historical Relations
Relations between Rwanda and Lesotho date back to 1983 and are based on mutual respect and cooperation, supported by various exchanges between leaders of both countries.
In 2024, the Government of Rwanda and the Kingdom of Lesotho signed a General Cooperation Agreement aimed at expanding collaboration for mutual benefit.
Areas of Cooperation
The two countries already cooperate in several sectors, including security, and are now looking to deepen collaboration in governance to ensure sustainable development and stronger institutions.
