Members of the Senate Committee on Economy and Finance have concluded field visits to nine districts, where they assessed the implementation of the Senate’s resolution to accelerate the development of infrastructure in industrial zones.
The visits formed part of ongoing efforts to evaluate how districts are supporting industrial growth and implementing national development priorities.
Persistent Challenges Identified
During discussions with district authorities and industrial operators, the senators identified several persisting challenges, while noting that some of them are already being addressed.
These efforts are aimed at boosting production, attracting more investment, and strengthening the country’s economic growth.
The committee reviewed issues affecting industrial performance, including delays in infrastructure development and barriers that can slow investor operations.
Need for Better Coordination and Services
The senators emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts between central and local government institutions, as well as the private sector, to ensure that industrial parks are fully serviced with essential infrastructure such as roads, electricity, water supply, and waste management systems.
They also highlighted the need to streamline administrative processes to make it easier for investors to operate efficiently.
According to the committee, reliable infrastructure and faster services are key to creating a more competitive industrial environment.
Kigali Visits Next on Assessment Tour
In addition, attention was drawn to the role of industrial zones in job creation, particularly for young people, and in promoting value addition to locally produced raw materials.
The committee noted that well-developed industrial parks can significantly contribute to increasing exports and reducing reliance on imports.
The senators will continue their assessment tour in the City of Kigali, where they are expected to hold discussions with city leaders and visit industrial zones located in Gasabo and Kicukiro districts.
These visits are part of ongoing efforts to ensure that national development priorities are effectively implemented across the country.
