Putin and Zelensky meeting talks are gaining momentum following a significant announcement from the Kremlin. On April 22, 2026, spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that President Vladimir Putin is prepared to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
This development comes as international pressure for a diplomatic resolution grows. Simultaneously, in Kyiv, President Zelensky called for the resumption of trilateral peace talks involving Ukraine, Russia, and the United States. While the world watches closely, both leaders remain cautious about the specific conditions required for such a high-level encounter.

Conditions for a Productive Moscow Summit
Dmitry Peskov clarified that Putin is open to meeting Zelensky, but only under specific circumstances. He emphasized that any discussion must have a clear purpose and deliver tangible outcomes. The Kremlin wants to ensure that a face-to-face meeting advances or concludes formal agreements rather than acting as a symbolic gesture.
Currently, Russia suggests that these diplomatic negotiations could take place in Moscow to bring prolonged talks to a final conclusion. However, these negotiations previously stalled when the United States shifted its focus toward rising tensions with Iran.

Obstacles to the Peace Negotiation Venue
President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly rejected the idea of holding peace talks in Moscow. On April 22, he reiterated his openness to negotiations in any country except Russia and Belarus. In contrast, reports indicate that Putin has declined the possibility of meeting Zelensky in a third country. This deadlock over the venue continues to challenge the progress of the Putin and Zelensky meeting talks.
Donald Trump previously suggested that personal dislike between the leaders contributes to this reluctance. Since their last face-to-face meeting occurred in 2019, the global community remains hopeful that a new summit could finally lead to a formal peace agreement.
