Maj. Gen. Francis Takirwa, the Deputy Commander of Uganda’s Land Forces, has died after a long illness. Authorities confirmed his death on February 7, 2026.

Passed Away at Mbuya Hospital
Sources from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) told Chimpreports that Maj. Gen. Takirwa died at about 6:00 p.m. He passed away at Mbuya Hospital in Kampala. Reports say he suffered a stroke.
Distinguished Military Career
Maj. Gen. Takirwa joined the UPDF in 1989. He served in several senior roles during his long military career. He once commanded the Second Division based in Mbarara, western Uganda.
Leadership and Peacekeeping Service
He also served as Director of Education, Culture, and Sports in the UPDF. Maj. Gen. Takirwa took part in peacekeeping missions in Somalia in 2011 and 2012. His service contributed to regional security efforts.
