A delegation from the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), led by Maj Gen Vincent Nyakarundi, Commander of the Rwanda Army Land Forces, attended a regional security meeting bringing together Chiefs of Defence Forces from across Africa in Kampala, Uganda.
The meeting took place on October 8, 2026, and brought together defence chiefs, intelligence chiefs and military leaders serving in United Nations (UN) and African Union (AU) peacekeeping missions.
It was officially opened by Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, while President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni attended as Guest of Honour.

African Countries Call for Stronger Military Cooperation
Participants signed a declaration calling on African countries to strengthen cooperation in military exercises, training, intelligence sharing and border protection to promote peace and security across the continent.
Maj Gen Nyakarundi proposed organising joint military exercises among smaller groups of countries to facilitate cooperation and the implementation of decisions made during the meeting.
He said Rwanda supported the proposals and thanked the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) for hosting the meeting. The meeting also attracted representatives of African countries and regional and international organisations, including MONUSCO, IGAD and NARC, as well as diplomats and defence attachés accredited to Uganda.
In his address, President Museveni emphasised that sustainable security is closely linked to resilient economies, political unity and cooperation.
