President Paul Kagame received Cheikh Niang, Senegal’s Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, at Village Urugwiro on October 8, 2026, to discuss ways to strengthen relations between Rwanda and Senegal.
The meeting followed the first session of the Rwanda and Senegal Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation, held on October 7.
During the discussions, the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation across several sectors, including security and defence, education, sports, the economy, culture, infrastructure, technology, agriculture, health, tourism and investment.

Rwanda and Senegal Sign Cooperation Agreements
The two countries signed and agreed on several documents aimed at implementing their cooperation agenda. The agreements covered technology and innovation, tourism, youth, culture and the arts, sports, higher education and research. They also addressed criminal justice cooperation, the extradition of suspects and the transfer of sentenced persons.
On economic cooperation, Rwanda and Senegal encouraged their private sectors to strengthen ties through business missions aimed at exploring investment opportunities and trade partnerships.
The Rwanda and Senegal Business Forum was also held to promote trade and investment between the two countries. Rwanda and Senegal maintain relations built on cooperation across various sectors. The latest discussions reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening these ties and expanding opportunities for collaboration.
