President Paul Kagame has promoted 742 personnel of the Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS) in a major restructuring move affecting officers across different ranks.
742 Rwandan Civil Service Commission employees promoted
According to a statement released by the RCS, the promotions cover senior officers, petty officers, non-commissioned officers, and wardens.
Among senior officers, 46 Superintendents were elevated to the rank of Senior Superintendent.

For petty officers, 37 Chief Inspectors were promoted to Superintendent, 18 Inspectors advanced to Chief Inspector, while 10 Assistant Inspectors rose to the rank of Inspector.
At the lower ranks, 188 Senior Sergeants were promoted to Chief Sergeant, 67 Sergeants advanced to Senior Sergeant, 48 Corporals moved up to Sergeant, and 328 Warders were promoted to Corporal.
Senior Officers Retired and Others Reinstated
The presidential directive also approved the retirement of several senior RCS officers, including Assistant Commissioner Moses Ntawiheba, Senior Superintendent Christine Aloys Gakuba, and Superintendent Josephine Nyiranteziryayo.

In addition, 22 other officers and personnel were retired from service.
At the same time, President Kagame reinstated 10 officers into the correctional service, including five senior officers and five junior officers.
296 Personnel Dismissed in Restructuring Exercise
The statement further confirmed the dismissal of 296 RCS personnel as part of the latest personnel changes.
Those dismissed include six senior officers, 13 junior officers, and 277 warders and enlisted personnel.
The changes reflect an ongoing effort to strengthen professionalism, accountability, and operational efficiency within Rwanda’s correctional service system.
