Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the United Arab Emirates of playing a direct role in attacks Iran has faced for months, which he says are linked to Israel and supported by the United States.
Remarks Made During BRICS Meeting in New Delhi
Speaking at a BRICS ministerial meeting in New Delhi, Araghchi criticized alleged UAE cooperation with Israel, warning that such alignment aims to divide Iranians and will not be tolerated. He also noted that the UAE did not issue any public condemnation when the attacks began, which he views as tacit support.
Reports of Secret Meetings and Regional Denials
The accusations come shortly after reports claimed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had secretly visited the UAE and met its leadership. However, the UAE has officially denied these claims.
Warnings Over Foreign Alliances and Military Presence
Araghchi warned that hosting U.S. military bases or maintaining close ties with Israel would not guarantee security for Gulf states, urging the UAE to reconsider its foreign policy and pursue peaceful relations with Iran.
Escalation of Regional Conflict and BRICS Tensions
The conflict escalated on February 28, 2026, when the U.S. and Israel reportedly launched coordinated strikes on Iran. In response, Iran targeted American military bases across the region, including in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. Additional reports also suggested Gulf states may have carried out strikes against Iran, though these claims remain unconfirmed.
The tensions have further complicated discussions within the BRICS grouping, which has recently expanded and now includes several Middle Eastern countries alongside its original members.
