Rwanda has deployed a group of soldiers to Jamaica to help repair infrastructure damaged by a powerful windstorm known as Melissa. The storm caused serious destruction in several parts of the country, affecting roads, bridges, and public facilities. The deployment aims to support Jamaica’s recovery efforts and help communities return to normal life.

Deployment under Bilateral Cooperation
The mission was carried out under a bilateral cooperation agreement between Rwanda and Jamaica. It highlights the growing partnership and strong ties between the two countries. The soldiers come from the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Engineering Brigade, a specialized unit known for its skills in construction, infrastructure development, and disaster recovery operations.
Engineers to Restore Critical Infrastructure
During the mission, RDF engineers will work alongside Jamaican government institutions, disaster management agencies, and local communities. Their main tasks include repairing damaged roads, bridges, and public buildings. They will also help restore other key infrastructure needed for essential services. These efforts are expected to speed up recovery and reduce the impact of future natural disasters.
Rwanda Promotes International Solidarity
The deployment reflects Rwanda’s commitment to international solidarity and cooperation. By sharing its technical expertise and experience in post-disaster reconstruction, Rwanda continues to support partner countries facing emergencies. The initiative also strengthens global cooperation in disaster response and sustainable infrastructure development.
