Ritar, a Chinese battery manufacturer, is eyeing opportunities to help Rwanda address electricity supply challenges as the country works to expand its power generation capacity to meet growing demand.
By 2050, Rwanda is expected to require approximately 5,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity to support its development ambitions.

Rwanda Targets 5,000 MW of Electricity by 2050
Rwanda is pursuing plans to increase its electricity generation capacity to meet future demand and support economic growth.
The country expects to achieve this target largely through clean energy sources, including nuclear power, hydropower, solar energy and other renewable sources.

Solar Energy Expansion Increases Need for Battery Storage
Rwanda is accelerating solar energy projects across the country, which are expected to contribute significantly to its long-term electricity generation targets.
However, expanding solar power will also require investment in battery storage systems to help households and institutions maintain access to electricity when sunlight is unavailable.
These systems store electricity generated by solar panels for later use, making them an important component of efforts to improve the reliability of solar power supply. Battery storage could therefore support Rwanda’s broader energy ambitions by helping make better use of the electricity generated from renewable sources.
