Rwandan peacekeepers serving under the RWABATT-2 battalion provided free medical care to inmates at Bossembele Prison in the Central African Republic on September 17, 2026. Medical personnel examined and treated more than 90 prisoners during the outreach.
Additionally, the peacekeeping team donated essential medicines to help the facility maintain ongoing healthcare services for its inmates.

Community Support and Official Recognition
Battalion Commander Colonel Laurent Kalisa Munana led the RWABATT-2 delegation alongside several local leaders. Officials attending the outreach included Bossembele Mayor Aristide Semungubo and Prison Director Mr. Franklin. Furthermore, Central African Armed Forces Commander Major Yavalas joined representatives from the Gendarmerie, the Police, the Chief Prosecutor, and MINUSCA representative Ms. Leïla Ben Othman.
Organizers planned the medical outreach to mark International Literacy Day. Specifically, the event highlighted how health support and education help inmates prepare for successful reintegration into society.

Strengthening Regional Partnerships
Mayor Semungubo expressed deep gratitude to the Rwandan medical team for addressing critical health needs within both the prison and the surrounding community.
“We view this outreach as a valuable sign of RWABATT-2’s commitment to supporting social welfare and promoting community engagement,” stated Mayor Semungubo. “It also strengthens cooperation between local authorities and international partners.”
Overall, the exercise reinforced trust between peacekeepers, security organs, and local communities. Consequently, such joint initiatives continue to enhance public health and social well-being across the region.
