President Paul Kagame has wrapped up his working visit to Doha, Qatar, where he held high‑level talks with the country’s leadership. According to Qatar News Agency, Kagame departed Doha on the morning of Monday, May 25, 2026, accompanied by his delegation.
At Hamad International Airport, he was seen off by Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi, and Rwanda’s Ambassador to Qatar, Igor Marara Kayinamura.

Talks with Qatar’s Amir
On Sunday, Kagame was received by Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, at the Amiri Diwan. The two leaders discussed the strong bilateral ties between Rwanda and Qatar, cooperation across multiple sectors, and regional as well as global issues. Both emphasized their shared commitment to advancing peace and security internationally.

Strengthening Bilateral Friendship
Kagame also expressed Rwanda’s solidarity with the people of Qatar and pledged continued support. The visit highlighted the close friendship between the two leaders, rooted in shared governance values and economic development priorities. Their relationship has grown steadily in recent years, reflecting mutual respect and collaboration.

Symbolic Ties Between Rwanda and Qatar
In November 2025, Sheikh Tamim visited Rwanda, where Kagame hosted him and symbolically gifted him traditional long‑horned cows (inyambo). This gesture underscored the enduring bond between the two nations and highlighted the cultural respect that continues to strengthen Rwanda‑Qatar relations.
