The residence of Sam Altman, the Chief Executive Officer of OpenAI and creator of ChatGPT, was attacked in San Francisco. The suspect allegedly used Molotov cocktails in an attempt to set the property on fire. According to San Francisco police, the incident took place on April 10, 2026.
Suspect Appears at OpenAI Headquarters
Police said the suspect was quickly arrested. He later appeared at OpenAI headquarters and allegedly threatened to set the building on fire as well.
Authorities said the attack happened within a short time. They identified the suspect as a 20-year-old man.
Arrest and Investigation
He allegedly threw an incendiary device over the fence of Altman’s home. He then fled the scene.
Police later arrested the suspect at OpenAI’s offices. Officials have not yet confirmed the motive behind the attack.
They also said no one was injured during the incident.

Sam Altman later posted on social media to reassure the public. He shared a photo of his family and confirmed that they were safe and unharmed.
