The United States Department of Defense confirmed that U.S. forces killed an Iranian commander who allegedly planned to assassinate former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Officials announced the operation on March 4, 2026. According to the Pentagon, intelligence services identified the suspected plot early and acted quickly to stop it. As a result, U.S. forces tracked the commander and carried out the strike.

U.S. Officials Say Intelligence Stopped the Plot
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said American intelligence agencies uncovered the plan before it could be executed.
He explained that security agencies monitored the suspect closely. They later located him and eliminated the threat.
“Iran attempted to kill President Trump, but our forces stopped the plot,” Hegseth said.
Tensions Rise After Death of Iran’s Supreme Leader
However, tensions between the United States and Iran increased sharply after the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
U.S. and Israel forces carried out airstrikes against Iranian targets beginning on February 28, 2026. As a result, the strikes killed Khamenei and several military figures. Military operations in the region reportedly continue.
Iran Responds With Regional Attacks
Following the airstrikes, Iran launched retaliatory attacks across the Middle East. Iranian forces targeted U.S. positions in Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq.
At the same time, Iran continues to launch attacks against Israel. Therefore, analysts warn that the conflict could escalate further if diplomatic efforts fail.
