The Rwanda Meteorology Agency (Meteo Rwanda) has announced that August 2026 will continue to be characterized by sunny conditions and limited rainfall, with daytime temperatures expected to reach as high as 32°C.
According to Meteo Rwanda, rainfall across the country is forecast to range between 5 mm and 100 mm during August, which is below the average rainfall typically recorded for the month.
In its August 2026 monthly weather outlook, the agency said maximum temperatures will range between 21°C and 32°C, while minimum nighttime temperatures are expected to vary between 10°C and 18°C.

Wind Conditions Expected
Meteo Rwanda also indicated that moderate winds, occasionally becoming strong, are expected, with wind speeds ranging from 4 to 12 meters per second.
The forecast follows a relatively dry July 2026, during which most parts of the country received below-average rainfall. Of the country’s 44 weather stations, 29 recorded rainfall below the long-term July average.
The agency reported that rainfall in July ranged between 0.5 mm and 96.6 mm. The highest rainfall was recorded at the Busogo ISAE weather station in Musanze District, with 96.6 mm, while the lowest amount, 0.5 mm, was recorded at the Nyagatare and Kansi weather stations in Gisagara District.
Temperature Trends
Regarding temperatures recorded in July, Meteo Rwanda said the average maximum temperatures ranged from 21.1°C in Kinigi, Musanze District, to 32.8°C in Bugarama, Rusizi District.
The agency noted that temperatures in August are expected to be slightly above the long-term average for the month.
Impact on Soil Moisture and Water Resources
These conditions could affect soil moisture and water resources, as Rwanda remains in the dry season. Meteo Rwanda forecasts that soil moisture will continue to decline across most parts of the country throughout August 2026 due to the dry season, which runs from June to August.

Effects on Agriculture
In the agricultural sector, the limited rainfall experienced in July helped facilitate the harvesting and post-harvest handling of Season B crops. However, it also negatively affected Season C farming activities because of reduced soil moisture.
Meteo Rwanda expects sunny conditions to persist across most of the country throughout August, which could further reduce water availability and affect agricultural activities during Season C.

The agency reminded the public that this monthly forecast should be used alongside its other weather updates, including six-hourly, daily, five-day, seven-day, and ten-day forecasts, to ensure access to the latest weather information.
