Murekatete Jovia, a resident of Musheri Cell in Musheri Sector, Nyagatare District, suffered a serious workplace accident several years ago that left her with a chronic illness and disability. Since then, her life has been marked by hardship and ongoing health challenges, to day 02 May 2026 recieved house and Three million support by Rwanda Nurse and Midwives Union na Nyagatare District.
In an effort to improve her living conditions and restore hope for her future, the Rwanda Nurses and Midwives Union (RNMU), in partnership with Nyagatare District, extended significant support to her through a special social welfare initiative.

A House, Household Equipment, and Financial Support
As part of the support package, Jovia received a newly constructed house, household equipment, food supplies expected to last for at least three months, and two water tanks with a capacity of 4,000 liters each.
In addition, she was granted Rwf 3 million to help her start income-generating activities and rebuild her life with dignity and independence. The total value of the assistance provided is estimated at nearly Rwf 13 million.

RNMU Says the Initiative Aims to Restore Hope
The representative of RNMU, Andre Gitembagara, said the initiative was intended to support people affected by serious workplace accidents and chronic illnesses so they can regain hope and improve their livelihoods.
He stated: “As an organization committed to the welfare of citizens, especially those facing health challenges and serious workplace-related difficulties, we realized that Jovia needed special support. We are pleased to have partnered with Nyagatare District to help her obtain decent housing and other basic necessities that will help her live a better life.”

He added that RNMU will continue to play a role in supporting vulnerable citizens, particularly people living with disabilities and chronic illnesses.
Jovia Expresses Gratitude for the Support
Speaking after receiving the support, Murekatete Jovia expressed deep gratitude, saying the assistance had restored her hope for the future.
She said: “After the accident I suffered while at work, my life changed completely. I was living under very difficult conditions, but today I am extremely happy to see people thinking about my wellbeing. The house and household items I received will help me live better, and the financial support will help me start development activities. I sincerely thank RNMU and Nyagatare District for their kindness.”
Local Leaders Praise the Partnership
The Vice Mayor of Nyagatare District in charge of Social Affairs, Murekatete Juliete, said the district prioritizes supporting vulnerable residents in order to improve their welfare.
She noted: “When different institutions work together, it becomes possible to transform the life of a citizen. We appreciate the partnership with RNMU in this important initiative to support Jovia. This is a good example of cooperation aimed at improving citizens’ welfare and helping them move from difficult living conditions to a better life.”

She also encouraged citizens to continue supporting vulnerable people within their communities.
Residents who attended the event praised the initiative, describing it as a strong example of solidarity and compassion toward vulnerable people, especially persons living with disabilities and those suffering from long-term illnesses.
The initiative demonstrated how collaboration between non-governmental organizations and local authorities can significantly improve the lives of vulnerable citizens and restore hope for a better future.
