The Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority (Rwanda FDA) has announced the closure of several manufacturers of alcoholic beverages, including Ingufu Gin Ltd and NBG Ltd, following inspections and assessments that found their operations failed to comply with regulatory requirements governing the sector.
The decision was taken to protect public health and strengthen oversight of the quality and safety of products available on the market.
Licenses Revoked and Product Recalls Ordered
In a statement issued on August 2, 2026, Rwanda FDA said it conducted inspections and compliance assessments involving manufacturers, distributors, and retailers of alcoholic beverages. As a result, it ordered the closure of the listed manufacturing facilities and revoked the production licenses previously granted to them.
The Authority also directed that all products manufactured by the affected companies be immediately withdrawn from the market and instructed the manufacturers to begin product recall procedures without delay.
Distributors and retailers were ordered to immediately stop selling the affected products and return any remaining stock to their suppliers or manufacturers.
Brands Affected by the Closure
Among the companies closed is Ingufu Gin Ltd, which produces alcoholic beverages marketed under the brands Red Waragi, Rabiant Gin, Ngufu Gin, King’s Vodka, Royal Castle Gin, Medal Gin, G&S Rum, New House Potable Spirit, Club Potable Spirit, and Hometown Potable Spirit.
NBG Ltd was also shut down. Its products, sold under brands including United Flavored Gin, Bombastic Coconut Flavored Gin, Ingwe Flavored Gin, Amerikan Flavored Gin, Maguma Gin, and Fimbo Blended Banana Brandy, have likewise been ordered off the market.
Other companies affected by the closure include SKY Drop Industries Ltd, Africana Buffalo Ltd, NOPA Company Ltd, Roots Investment Group Ltd, Rugali Agro-processing Company, and Zhonglu Industrial Liability Company Ltd.
Public Urged to Stop Using Listed Products
Rwanda FDA urged members of the public to immediately stop using any products listed in the announcement. It also called on manufacturers and traders of alcoholic beverages to comply fully with the directives, warning that failure to do so could result in additional legal enforcement measures.
The Authority added that compliance inspections are ongoing and that another list of companies may be announced if further assessments identify additional regulatory violations.
Measures Aim to Protect Public Health
Rwanda FDA emphasized that these measures are intended to safeguard public health and ensure that only products meeting the required quality and safety standards reach consumers.
The announcement comes just hours after Rwanda FDA suspended all permits for the importation of ethanol, also known as neutral spirit, and halted the processing of new import permit applications for the substance.
