The Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, hosted a security briefing for Defence Attachés (DAs) accredited to Rwanda. The session provided updates on regional and international security developments, as well as Rwanda’s ongoing peace support operations.
Defence Attachés from Several Countries Attend
The briefing brought together Defence Attachés and delegates representing partner countries and international organisations, including Angola, Brazil, China, Denmark, Egypt, Germany, India, Japan, Jordan, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Senegal, Tanzania, Türkiye, Uganda, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union.
Rwanda Highlights Importance of Dialogue
The briefing was organised as part of the Ministry of Defence’s regular diplomatic engagement with the defence community. It provided a platform for information sharing, constructive dialogue and the exchange of perspectives on national, regional and global security matters.
Brigadier General Karuretwa Addresses Delegates
Opening the session, Brigadier General Patrick Karuretwa, Director General of International Military Cooperation and Defence Spokesperson, welcomed the delegates and highlighted Rwanda’s commitment to maintaining open and consistent communication with the diplomatic defence community.
He said the engagements help explain Rwanda’s perspectives on issues of mutual interest while strengthening understanding between Rwanda’s defence institutions and its international partners.
Strengthening Defence Cooperation
The interactive forum also enabled Defence Attachés to engage directly with MoD and RDF representatives, gaining deeper insight into Rwanda’s operational priorities and strategic outlook on regional stability.
The Ministry of Defence considers the Defence Attaché community accredited to Rwanda an important partner in strengthening defence-to-defence relations, building mutual trust and advancing practical military cooperation between Rwanda and its international partners.
