The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) in Rwamagana District has arrested a man from Musha Sector on suspicion of killing his wife, placing her body in a sack, and dumping it in Lake Muhazi.
The incident came to light on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, in Bwiza Village, Nyabisindu Cell, Musha Sector, Rwamagana District.
Woman Reported Missing
The case dates back to July 25, 2026, when the 26-year-old mother of two was reported missing. On July 30, 2026, her husband filed a missing person report with RIB, but only after being pressured by the deceased’s family to do so.
Body Discovered Along Lake Muhazi
The Executive Secretary of Musha Sector, Claudios Karahamuheto, told IGIHE that local residents alerted authorities after discovering a body along the shores of Lake Muhazi more than a week later. RIB officers and other security agencies responded to the scene.
he said: “When we arrived, we found the body inside a sack. We then contacted the family who had reported a missing relative. They came and identified the body as their daughter. It appeared that she had been killed, tightly wrapped in the sack, sealed, and then thrown into Lake Muhazi.”

Investigation Points to Husband
Karahamuheto added that preliminary evidence led investigators to suspect the deceased’s husband, noting that he reported her disappearance five days after she went missing and only after being urged by her relatives.
Authorities Call for Early Reporting of Conflicts
He called on residents to live peacefully, avoid domestic conflicts, report disputes to local authorities, and provide information promptly whenever incidents occur.
The suspect is currently being held at the Musha RIB Station as investigations continue.
