Two Rwandan officer cadets, Elie Ndagijimana and Fils Niyikiza, have successfully completed their training at the prestigious Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun.

The graduation ceremony, held on Saturday, was presided over by Indian President Droupadi Murmu. It marked the completion of the 158th Regular Course and the 141st Technical Course.
Rwandan Cadets Honoured

The graduates, Officer Cadet (O/Cdt) Elie Ndagijimana and O/Cdt Fils Niyikiza, received medals for their achievement. Both upheld the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) values of discipline, integrity, and dedication throughout their training.
President Murmu’s Address

In her speech, President Murmu reminded the cadets that as future senior officers, they will carry the responsibility of leading, teaching, and caring for their troops. She also highlighted the historic presence of nine female graduates, calling it a milestone for India’s armed forces and a symbol of progress in women’s empowerment.
Strengthening International Ties
The President emphasised that the participation of foreign cadets demonstrates India’s commitment to fostering friendship and cooperation worldwide.
Before the parade on June 13, 2026, O/Cdt Elie Ndagijimana reflected on his experience, noting that strict discipline and endurance training had prepared him to serve as an RDF officer. He added that his time at IMA symbolises the strong partnership between India and Rwanda, and their shared commitment to developing future military leaders.
