Kirehe District Calls for Stronger Hygiene Practices

Kirehe District leaders have urged residents to improve personal and household hygiene. In particular, they called on every household to build and use a standard latrine. This effort aims to prevent sanitation-related diseases and improve community well-being.

District officials emphasized that good hygiene starts at home. They noted that clean living conditions help families stay healthy and live with dignity.

Community Meeting Held in Mahama Sector

On 20 January 2026, district leaders met with residents of Mahama Sector, Mwoga Cell. During the community assembly, they discussed key issues affecting health, development, and daily life.

Such meetings help leaders engage directly with citizens. In addition, they allow residents to raise concerns and receive guidance on community priorities.

District Warns Against Sharing Latrines

Although hygiene conditions have improved, leaders raised concerns about shared latrines. Some households still depend on common facilities. However, authorities said this practice is unsafe and unacceptable.

Shared latrines can spread diseases. They also reduce cleanliness and household privacy. For this reason, leaders stressed that every household must have its own latrine.

Mayor Calls for Hygiene, Discipline, and Security

Kirehe District Mayor Rangira Bruno urged residents to maintain cleanliness, good behavior, and integrity. He reminded them that hygiene is a personal responsibility.

He said: “Hygiene is not only the responsibility of leaders. It is the duty of every citizen. No household should exist without its own latrine,”

Furthermore, he explained that hygiene begins with individuals. It then extends to households, villages, and cells. As a result, clean communities enjoy better health.

The Mayor also addressed security issues. He encouraged residents to fight crime, avoid excessive alcohol consumption, and respect settlement plans. Moreover, he asked them to work closely with security organs to protect their property.

Residents Pledge to Follow Guidance

Residents welcomed the meeting and thanked leaders for the advice. Many said the discussion helped them better understand the importance of hygiene and sanitation. They also committed to promoting peace within families and neighborhoods.

Meanwhile, district authorities announced that similar meetings will continue in other villages. Through these engagements, they aim to stay close to citizens, listen to their concerns, and encourage active participation in development programs.
