Russian drone strikes killed at least two people and injured dozens across Ukraine overnight, officials said. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the attacks targeted several regions, including Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhia, Khmelnytskyi and Odesa.
Russia launched more than 200 drones during the assault. Emergency workers responded quickly to damaged areas. In the Kharkiv region, rescuers cleared debris from a destroyed postal terminal after the strike.
Power Outages Deepen Ukraine’s Winter Crisis
The attacks caused serious damage to Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Large areas lost electricity as temperatures dropped below freezing. Zelenskyy said the power grid now supplies only about 60 percent of national demand.
Kyiv, Kharkiv and Zaporizhia suffered the worst outages. The government declared an energy emergency and moved to speed up electricity imports. Officials are also installing extra power equipment to protect homes and hospitals.
Diplomatic Talks Continue as Fighting Escalates
The strikes happened as Ukrainian officials traveled to the United States for peace talks. The discussions focus on security guarantees and post-war recovery. Ukraine and the US have drafted a 20-point peace plan, but Russia has not responded.
Russia continues to demand territorial concessions and blocks Ukraine’s NATO ambitions. Meanwhile, Ukrainian drones hit Russian-occupied Zaporizhia, cutting power to over 200,000 people, according to local authorities.
