Authorities in Rakai District, Uganda, are investigating a suspected outbreak of an unidentified illness that has killed four people in the villages of Muddala, Kyakabikwa and Kyabigondo in Lwamagwa Sub-county.
The deceased have been identified as Bangirana Charles, Ntegyeriize Jenifa, Behakanira Christmas and another person whose identity has not yet been established, according to Chimpreports.

Samples collected from the deceased have been sent to a laboratory for testing to determine what may have caused their deaths.
Symptoms Raise Concern
The Greater Masaka Police spokesperson, SP Twaha Kasirye, said the illness is reportedly characterised initially by sores affecting the hands, followed by swelling of the chest, with patients reportedly dying within two days.
SP Twaha Kasirye said: “The investigation has begun to establish the cause of this unusual illness.”
Authorities Urge Caution
He urged residents to remain calm, report anyone showing suspicious symptoms to the authorities, and avoid self-medication without first seeking medical attention.
