Twenty-six senior officers from the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), Rwanda National Police (RNP), the Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS), and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are participating in a military management training programme at the Rwanda Defence Force Command and Staff College in Musanze District.
The programme brings together senior leaders from Rwanda’s security institutions to strengthen their strategic leadership and management capabilities.
Training Conducted in Two Phases
The training began with an online phase held from July 1 to July 12, 2026, before transitioning to in-person sessions at the RDF Command and Staff College from July 13 to July 23, 2026.
The blended approach combines virtual learning with classroom-based instruction to provide participants with both theoretical and practical knowledge.
Partnership Between RDF and UNITAR
The programme is the third phase in a series of senior leadership training initiatives organized through a partnership between the RDF Command and Staff College and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).
The collaboration is intended to strengthen professional development among senior officials responsible for national and international security matters.
Focus on Leadership and Military Management
The training is designed to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in leadership, strategic planning, and decision-making.
It also seeks to equip senior officers with the expertise required to effectively manage military institutions, operations, and resources during both peacetime and exceptional circumstances.
Strengthening Institutional Capacity
By bringing together leaders from different security institutions and government agencies, the programme promotes collaboration while reinforcing Rwanda’s commitment to building capable and professional leadership.
The initiative is expected to further strengthen institutional capacity, enabling senior officers to respond effectively to evolving security challenges and contribute to national and international peace and security efforts.
