The Chief of Defence Staff of Rwanda, General MK Mubarak, received the Commander of the Botswana Defence Force, General Mpho Churchill Mophuting, who is visiting Rwanda. Both military leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening military cooperation between the two countries.
Focus on Military Training and Professional Development
The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in military training, knowledge exchange, and the professional development of their personnel.
General Mubarak highlighted the progress already made through joint training opportunities at different levels. He said these exchanges have enabled soldiers from both countries to better understand their respective institutions, share military experiences, and build stronger professional relationships.

Botswana Defence Force Officers to Train in Rwanda
General Mubarak also highlighted the establishment of Rwanda’s National Defence University (NDU-R), which includes the National Defence College Rwanda and is expected to begin offering courses this year.
He said Rwanda is ready to welcome officers from the Botswana Defence Force to its military education institutions, providing another opportunity to expand cooperation and strengthen professional military training.

Botswana Commander Visiting Rwanda
General Mophuting is visiting Rwanda to attend the 2026 meeting of the Eastern and Southern Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group.
His visit also provides an opportunity for the two defence forces to review their existing cooperation and identify additional areas for collaboration.
