Byusa Pacifique of Les Amis Sportifs and Masengesho Yvonne of Black Mamba won the seventh round of the “Rwanda Youth Racing Cup 2026,” a cycling competition for young riders, held in Huye City on Saturday, August 8, 2026, in the Under-19 category.
This was the first time Huye District had hosted a “Rwanda Youth Racing Cup” race, and also the first time the competition had been held in the Southern Province. Since its launch in 2023, the races had previously been held in Musanze, Kigali, Bugesera and Rwamagana.
The monthly competition, organised by FERWACY, brought together 107 young cyclists, including 70 boys and 37 girls, competing across five age categories, from Under-11 to Under-19.
The race was held on a one-kilometre circuit. Riders started at Mberabyombi, turned at SP Station, and continued along the Gratia–Chez Venant–Ku Isoko–Casa–Mberabyombi route.
Under-19 and Under-17 Results
In the Under-19 boys’ category (Juniors), Byusa Pacifique took first place after completing 35 laps in 51 minutes, 15 seconds and 43 hundredths of a second. He was followed by Ishimwe Jean D’Amour of Bugesera Cycling Club, who finished just 46 hundredths of a second behind.
Shema Emmanuel of Les Amis Sportifs finished third, followed by Gisubizo Issa and Mugabo Jules. All five riders completed 35 laps.
In the girls’ category, Masengesho Yvonne of Black Mamba claimed her second victory after her previous win in June. She completed 33 laps in 52 minutes, three seconds and 68 hundredths of a second.
Uwizeyimana Uwase Ancille of Bugesera Cycling Club finished second, just 10 seconds behind, while Akimana Donatha of Ngarama Sports Academy came third. Ingabire Divine of Les Amis Sportifs and Tuyizere Violette also finished among the top five.
In the Under-17 boys’ category (Cadets), Byiringiro Mubarak of Les Amis Sportifs emerged victorious after completing 25 laps in 37 minutes, 21 seconds and 94 hundredths of a second. He finished ahead of teammate Habumuremyi Cyusa, whom he beat by 77 hundredths of a second.
In the girls’ category, Liza wa Jehovayile of Les Amis Sportifs took first place in 37 minutes, 57 seconds and 13 hundredths, followed by Mwamikazi Joys Cynthia and Agasaro Gloria.
Under-15 and Under-13 Winners
In the Under-15 boys’ category (Minimes), Igiraneza Thaddée of LWD Cycling Team won after completing 18 laps in 29 minutes, 37 seconds and 49 hundredths. Iradukunda Kevin of Bugesera Cycling Club finished second, just 16 hundredths of a second behind.
In the girls’ category, Umutoni Alice of Les Amis Sportifs once again demonstrated her strong form, winning after completing 17 laps in 30 minutes, 28 seconds and 22 hundredths.
In the Under-13 category (Benjamins), Haburemyi Nisemusa Lucky of LWD Cycling Team won the boys’ race in 17 minutes and 33 seconds. Among the girls, Umutoni Alice of Les Amis Sportifs took first place in 17 minutes and 40 seconds.
Under-11 Race and Next Round
In the Under-11 category (Pupilles), Fatingabo Mushambo Caleb of LWD Cycling Team won the boys’ race, while Ingabire Jacqueline of Bike for Future emerged victorious among the girls. Fatingabo completed the race in 15 minutes and 22 seconds, while Ingabire finished in 14 minutes and 51 seconds.
The eighth round of the “Rwanda Youth Racing Cup 2026” is scheduled for September 20, 2026, in Rwamagana. Points earned by riders each month are accumulated throughout the year, with the overall winners receiving awards.
The competition has been held since July 2023. It was initially launched as part of preparations for the 2025 UCI Road World Championships held in Kigali in September 2025. It is now aimed at promoting cycling among young people, developing emerging talent and strengthening Rwanda’s cycling heritage.
