Bank of Kigali (BK) and the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) will represent Rwanda in the East Africa Corporate League, a basketball tournament bringing together the top corporate teams from across the East African region.
The tournament, which will be held at the international level for the first time, is scheduled to take place in Rwanda from August 8 to 14, 2026.
Corporate League Expands Beyond National Competitions
The Corporate League has traditionally been played within individual countries, with companies in Rwanda competing annually in a basketball tournament.
In both 2024 and 2025, the tournament in Rwanda was won by Bank of Kigali, which is widely recognized for having one of the strongest corporate basketball teams in the country.
Organisers Eye Continental Expansion
The tournament director, Hirwa Jean Paul, said the competition’s international expansion is a sign that it could eventually feature corporate teams from across the African continent.
He said: “Our goal is to expand this tournament so that it attracts the strongest corporate teams in Africa. We are exploring the possibility of inviting companies from Southern and North African countries to participate starting next year,”
BK and NISR to Face Kenya’s KPA
After emerging as the top corporate team in Kenya, KPA will face Bank of Kigali in the men’s competition and NISR in the women’s category.
