Rwandan singer Amalon has revealed that he nearly signed with Urban Records, the record label founded by the iconic group Urban Boyz, before his career eventually took a different direction.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with IGIHE ahead of his upcoming performance alongside Urban Boyz, Amalon said sharing the stage with the group is a special moment, recalling how they had once shown interest in signing him at the beginning of his music career.
he said: “It’s going to be an incredible show. My song Impanga was recorded at Urban Records’ studio. In fact, when I was just starting out in music, they wanted to sign me. I even remember attending meetings to discuss it, but that’s when DJ Pius stepped in and took me under his wing.”

Praise for Urban Boyz and Their Reunion
Amalon described himself as a longtime admirer of Urban Boyz, singling out their hit song Barahurura as one of his favorites. He also welcomed the group’s reunion, saying it is a positive development for Rwanda’s music industry.
he said: “Rwandan music is on a path of growth, and we don’t have time to waste on conflicts. Seeing Urban Boyz reunite is something to celebrate. I hope they continue working together because there’s only good that can come from it.”

Set to Perform at Zaria Courts Anniversary
Fresh from performing at the MTN Iwacu Muzika Festival, Amalon said he feels honored to be among the artists invited to celebrate the first anniversary of Zaria Courts in Kigali.
The anniversary concert will take place at Zaria Courts on Saturday, August 8, 2026, where Amalon and Urban Boyz will share the stage in what promises to be one of the event’s major highlights.

Continuing Promotion of His New Album
Beyond the upcoming performance, Amalon said he is continuing to release songs from his new album, MVP. He added that if all goes according to plan, he hopes to stage a concert to officially launch the project and perform it live for his fans.

The singer called on his supporters to turn up in large numbers, noting that it has been some time since he last had the opportunity to perform for them. He expressed excitement about reconnecting with fans during the celebration and sharing the stage with Urban Boyz.
