Rwanda is set to host a new awards competition bringing together 58 categories of professionals and outstanding performers in entertainment, arts, journalism, fashion and sports.
The inaugural awards will initially be held in Rwanda, with organisers planning to expand the initiative to the international level in the future.
According to Imvaho Nshya, the organisers announced the initiative during a press conference held on the evening of September 25, 2026. They said the main objective is to recognise and promote people who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in various fields.

Recognising Established and Emerging Talent
A distinctive feature of the Rwanda awards is that they will not focus only on well-known personalities. They will also provide opportunities for talented individuals whose work has not yet received widespread recognition.
Ben Rurangirwa, one of the people behind the awards and a professional in Rwanda’s film industry, said the initiative aims to support talent and bring together people involved in different sectors. “It is a platform aimed at recognising outstanding work, promoting talent and further bringing together people who play a role in the entertainment, arts, media and sports industries.”

58 Categories Across Different Sectors
The 58 competing categories include music, film, television series, comedy, fashion, journalism, digital content creation and sports.
Among the categories are Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Actor of the Year, Actress of the Year, Best Film, Best Series and Film Director of the Year.
The awards will also feature fashion and digital content categories, including Fashion Artist of the Year, Content Creator/TikToker of the Year, Journalist of the Year, YouTube Channel of the Year and Best Podcast, among others.
In sports, the awards will recognise activities in football, basketball and volleyball, with teams, players and coaches competing in various categories. Special awards will also be presented, including Icon Sportsman of the Year and Icon Sportswoman of the Year.

Selection Based on Achievement and Impact
The organisers say the selection of nominees will be based on talent, performance, achievements, impact and contribution to the development of entertainment, arts, journalism and sports in Rwanda.
The awards will be held under the theme “Celebrating Rwanda’s Icons,” which seeks to celebrate and showcase individuals and institutions whose work has contributed to the development of these sectors in Rwanda.
The organisers said that after launching the awards in Rwanda, they plan to expand the initiative to the international level in the future.
