The Rwanda national football team, Amavubi, has relocated its training camp to Egypt after Morocco suspended all international friendly matches scheduled to be played in the country due to concerns related to an Ebola outbreak.
The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) announced that the national team will continue its preparations in Cairo, Egypt, following the cancellation of the friendly matches that had been planned in Marrakech during the FIFA international window in June 2026.

Friendly Matches Cancelled
In an official statement, FERWAFA informed football fans and the Rwandan public that the international friendlies involving Amavubi in Morocco would no longer take place. The federation explained that the decision followed a communication from Moroccan football authorities, who stated that the matches had been prohibited for security and public health reasons.
According to FERWAFA, the information was received after some members of the Amavubi delegation had already arrived in Marrakech on June 1, 2026, to prepare for the scheduled fixtures.

Preparations Continue in Egypt
While expressing respect for the decision taken by the relevant authorities in Morocco, FERWAFA emphasized that Rwanda’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers remain on course.
As a result, the team’s training camp has been moved to Cairo, where preparations will continue from Thursday.
The federation further revealed that efforts are underway to secure alternative international friendly matches in Egypt, ensuring that Amavubi maintain their competitive readiness ahead of the crucial AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign.

Looking Ahead
Despite the disruption caused by the cancellation of the Morocco-based friendlies, Rwanda remains focused on its long-term objectives.
