On Wednesday, the Rwandan women’s national team drew Ethiopia in the second round of the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers to be held in Los Angeles, United States.
Q ualification Format and Preliminary Round Details
The draw was held in two stages, with a total of 35 African teams participating, but due to the FIFA ranking, six countries, namely Sudan, which will play Comoros, South Sudan, Madagascar, and Mauritius, which will play Djibouti, will play a preliminary round, and three of them will be eliminated, leaving 29 other countries that were in good standing at the time of the draw.
Rwanda Enters Competition in Second Round
Among these 29 countries that are in good standing, Rwanda will start in the second round of the games. The draw for the next round saw Amavubi face Ethiopia in a first-leg and second-leg tie, with the remaining two teams advancing to the third round of five matches until two African nations are selected.
Match Schedule and Key Dates Confirmed
The first round of qualifiers will be played between 1 and 9 June 2026, with the remaining three teams, including Rwanda, advancing to the second round of qualifiers, which will be played between 5 and 13 October 2026, with Amavubi hosting Ethiopia.
