The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has approved 16 teams to compete in the Second Division Championship, while four other teams that applied to participate have been denied licenses.
On Saturday, October 3, 2026, FERWAFA released the list of teams granted licenses to compete in the 2026/27 Second Division season.
A total of 20 teams applied to participate in the division, but four were not approved. They are Motar FC, Unity SC, Addax SC and Muhazi United FC.
The teams were denied licenses for failing to meet some of the requirements set by FERWAFA’s Club Licensing Committee.
Officials from the affected clubs continue to maintain that they were unfairly treated and say they are prepared to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) if the decision remains unchanged. They had already appealed to FERWAFA’s Appeals Committee and the FERWAFA Independent Sports Tribunal, but the decision remained unchanged.
Four Teams Could Drop to Third Division
FERWAFA regulations provide that a team that fails to obtain a license to compete in a particular division is relegated to the next lower division, provided it meets the requirements for teams competing in that division.
This means the four teams could play in the Third Division if the decision against them remains final.
