Nyagatare District Council has presented key achievements recorded during its five-year term from 2021 to 2026, highlighting the contribution of local leaders, residents, institutions and development partners to the district’s development.
The event provided an opportunity to review the progress made during the term, assess the implementation of development priorities and identify areas requiring further attention to improve residents’ welfare.

Council President calls for continued self-assessment
The President of the Nyagatare District Council, Kabagamba, thanked different institutions and stakeholders for their contribution to the development of the district and improving the lives of residents.
He described the presentation of achievements as an important opportunity for leaders to assess the progress made, identify successful initiatives that should be maintained and examine whether residents’ priorities and concerns have been addressed.
He said: “It is an opportunity to look again at the progress we have made and where we want to go but have not yet reached. We want to look at what more we can do beyond what we have already achieved to make it easier for residents to address their challenges,”
He added that presenting achievements should go beyond listing completed activities, saying it should also help leaders identify remaining challenges and establish priorities for the next phase of development.

Mayor Kakooza highlights collective efforts
The Mayor of Nyagatare District, Kakooza Henry, also emphasized the importance of reviewing the achievements made during the five-year term.
He highlighted the contribution of different institutions and residents in implementing development programmes, noting that progress in the district has been supported by collaboration between local authorities, communities and development partners.
He said: We thank our residents who most participated in this journey, they are good partners for sure. We implemented their ideas and needs.
Among the key areas addressed during the term are agriculture and livestock development, infrastructure, social welfare, education and improvement of public services.
The district has also continued to work with partners to increase agricultural and livestock production while improving post-harvest management and supporting residents involved in farming and livestock activities.
Mayor Kakooza also thanked district leaders and other stakeholders who contributed to the implementation of development programmes during the five-year term.
State Minister Uwituze commends Nyagatare’s development efforts
The State Minister in the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources, Dr. Solange Uwituze, who was the chief guest at the event, highlighted the importance of agriculture and livestock to the livelihoods and economic development of residents.
She commended the district leadership and stakeholders for their contribution to agricultural and livestock development and emphasized the need to strengthen collaboration between government institutions, residents, security organs and development partners.
She stated: Continued cooperation is important in addressing challenges affecting residents and creating conditions for sustainable development. Progress made during the five-year term should serve as a foundation for further action, with continued focus on making public services more accessible and helping residents address challenges affecting their livelihoods.”
