The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, Ngabo Brave, announced that they have begun discussions with the Ministry of Education on ways to restore the playgrounds that were once in schools, which helped children have fun and develop their talents when they were not in school.
School Playgrounds Were Replaced by Classrooms and Gardens
In the past, many schools had playgrounds that helped children play various games during recess.
Most of them were not properly constructed playgrounds for games, but they helped children have fun and develop their talents.
Later, these playgrounds were closed, where they were planted with gardens, and in other places classrooms were built, so that the schools were left without a place for children to play, especially where students go home.
Ngabo Says Playgrounds Can Help Nurture Talent
Speaking on the Urubuga rw’Itanagara program broadcast on various media outlets, Ngabo said that closing the playgrounds did not mean that playing was not beneficial for children, because there was a need to build more classrooms in order to reduce school overcrowding.
However, they are currently in talks with the Ministry of Education to reclaim them so that children can use them again because they were very useful to them.
He said, “We have been in talks with the Ministry of Education for a few days to reclaim these playgrounds. It will also help restore the spirit in which we grew up to be athletes, because it helps in nurturing talent. Even when you think about it, the education sector knows that a child who plays sports and succeeds in school is different from one who does not go to other schools.”
Move Could Increase Number of Professional Athletes
This would also contribute to increasing the number of children who will become professional sports players, because there are some institutions that have stadiums, especially those that provide boarding schools for students, where they have children who excel in regular classes and other good athletes in various sports who can continue them as a profession later.

He indicated that the current stage of these discussions is to see what it would take to collaborate so that children can find a place to play.
MINISPORTS also plans to expand this program, including collaborating with local authorities to see how to create infrastructure such as stadiums in cells and sectors that help youth find what they are passionate about and develop their talents so that they can find jobs.
