Restored Sight, Renewed Joy
Higiro Francois Abdallah, over 70, and his wife Mukandanga Philomene from Gatsibo District, lived peacefully and often visited neighbours.
Three years ago, they both began losing their sight due to cataracts, making daily life difficult. With only one child at home, who could not support them fully, their situation became dire.
RDF Medical Intervention

Recently, the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) learned of their plight and added them to a medical program for cataract treatment. Last week, their lives changed: RDF doctors examined them at a nearby hospital, removed their cloudy natural lenses, and replaced them with artificial ones.
Healing Moments
On the third day after surgery, the doctors tested the results. Francois stepped outside, and after simple exercises, he could see clearly.
Overjoyed, onlookers exclaimed, “He is healed! Thank God!” The same process was done for his wife, who also regained her sight. When asked what she had longed to see, she said she missed singing in the choir, her lifelong passion.

Community Celebration
The couple returned home, greeted warmly by neighbours, and the community celebrated their restored vision. Grateful, they blessed the RDF for bringing light back into their lives.
