The Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority has announced new public transport fares across the country. The changes will affect thousands of daily passengers.
According to the announcement, the highest fare is on the Nyabugogo–Kamembe route via Huye. Passengers will now pay 11,445 Rwandan Francs.
Those using the alternative route via Karongi will pay slightly less. The new fare is 10,296 Rwandan Francs.

Northern and Southern Province Fare Updates
Passengers traveling from Nyabugogo to Musanze in the Northern Province will pay 3,821 Rwandan Francs. This route costs less because the distance is shorter.
In the Southern Province, the fare from Nyabugogo to Huye is now 5,068 Rwandan Francs. Many students and business travelers use this route.
Eastern Province Fare Variations
Fares in the Eastern Province vary depending on distance.
Passengers traveling from Nyabugogo to Kagitumba in Nyagatare District will pay 7,900 Rwandan Francs.
Those going to Rusumo in Kirehe District will pay 7,029 Rwandan Francs.
Start Date and Purpose of the Changes
The new fares will start on Monday, April 6, 2026.
RURA introduced these changes to better regulate transport services. The goal is to keep prices in line with current economic conditions.

Many commuters will need to adjust their travel budgets.
Bus operators will apply the new fares immediately on the start date. Passengers should stay informed and prepare in advance.
