The Acting Mayor of Nyagatare District, Kakooza Henry, has urged Tabagwe Sector, winners of the men’s Umurenge Kagame Cup, and Musheri Sector, champions in the women’s category, to represent the district with pride and discipline as they move to the provincial level as District ambassadors.

He shared the message during the district finals held at Nyagatare Stadium. The event attracted many football fans who came to witness the crowning of the 2025 Umurenge Kagame Cup champions.
Exciting Finals Crown District Winners
The finals delivered exciting matches in both categories. First, in the women’s final, Musheri Sector defeated Tabagwe Sector through penalties after a tight contest.
Meanwhile, the men’s final ended in a 1–1 draw between Tabagwe Sector and Nyagatare Sector in regular time. Later, Tabagwe won the penalty shootout 3–1, securing the district title.
Mayor Kakooza Calls for Discipline and Hard Work
During the ceremony, Mayor Kakooza Henry reminded the teams that they now represent the entire district. Therefore, he urged them to remain focused and committed.
“The teams that won now represent Nyagatare District you are District ambassadors. We will support your preparations. However, you must continue training hard because tougher matches lie ahead.”
In addition, he promised continued support from the district leadership as the teams prepare for the next phase.
Players Promise Strong Performance at Provincial Level
Players from both teams welcomed the mayor’s message. Accordingly, they promised to prepare well for the provincial competition.
UWAJENEZA ARUFA Bonnet, a player from the Musheri women’s team, said the victory gives them confidence. However, she noted that the next level will be more demanding.
“We are happy with this win. Now, we must prepare better to face stronger teams,” she said.

Similarly, MURWANASHYAKA Junia from Tabagwe men’s team said teamwork played a key role in their success. As a result, the team plans to increase training sessions.
“Winning was not easy. We faced strong opponents. Therefore, we must train harder to remain competitive,” he explained.
Teams Receive Prizes as Tournament Concludes
At the end of the tournament, Tabagwe Sector won the men’s title. The team received the trophy, 300,000 RWF, and a football. Meanwhile, Nyagatare Sector finished second and received 200,000 RWF and a football. In addition, Karangazi Sector placed third and earned 150,000 RWF along with a football.

In the women’s category, Musheri Sector claimed the championship trophy, 300,000 RWF, and a football. Meanwhile, Tabagwe Sector finished second and received 200,000 RWF and a football. Furthermore, Gatunda Sector took third place and earned 150,000 RWF and a football. Finally, Karama Sector, which finished fourth, received a football.
Overall, Tabagwe and Musheri sectors now turn their focus to the provincial stage. They carry the hopes of Nyagatare District as they aim for further success in the Umurenge Kagame Cup.
