This Sunday 29 March 2026, the 2025/2026 Umurenge Kagame Cup competitions at the Eastern provincial level were concluded in Ngoma District marked by final matches in various categories including basketball, volleyball, and football, where in Football Kigarama Sector from Kirehe District won the championship after defeating Murambi Sector 2–1 in an exciting final match in In men.

The event attracted a large number of spectators from different districts, who came to support teams representing their areas. This strong turnout highlighted the role of sports in promoting good governance and community engagement.
Football Results
In men’s football, Kigarama Sector from Kirehe District won the championship after defeating Murambi Sector 2–1 in an exciting final match.
In women’s football, Gatore Sector claimed the title by beating Gahara Sector 2–1.
Volleyball Results
In volleyball, Ngoma District demonstrated exceptional strength, continuing to affirm its reputation as a stronghold of the sport in the Eastern Province.
- In the men’s category, Ngoma defeated Kayonza District 3–0 in sets.
- In the women’s category, Ngoma also triumphed over Rwamagana District with a 3–0 victory.
Basketball Results
In basketball, Rwamagana District won the men’s title after defeating Ngoma District with a score of 76–63.
In the women’s category, Kayonza District secured the championship by beating Nyagatare District 82–30.
Ngoma District Mayor, Anathalie Niyonagira, also expressed her appreciation for hosting the event and highlighted the importance of sports in community development.
She stated: “We are proud to have hosted the finals of the Umurenge Kagame Cup here in Ngoma District. This tournament has not only showcased the talents of our youth but also strengthened unity and cooperation among our communities. We remain committed to supporting sports development as a pillar for youth empowerment and sustainable development.
Governor’s Remarks
In his speech, the Governor of the Eastern Province, Pudence Rubingisa, thanked the large number of citizens who attended the competitions. He also commended the teams for their discipline and contribution to the development of sports.
He said: “We are pleased to see such a large turnout of citizens who came to support their teams. This reflects the strong role that sports play in bringing our communities together. I also commend all the teams for their discipline and their valuable contribution to the development of sports in our province.”
He particularly urged the youth and participants to avoid drug abuse and illicit alcohol, encouraging them to continue promoting fair competition and supporting good governance.
