U.S. President Donald Trump warned Canada over delays in approving aircraft made by U.S. company Gulfstream. He said Canadian regulators were slowing the process and harming American businesses.
Trump said the United States could cancel approval for Bombardier Global Express jets. He also warned that he would impose a 50% tariff on all Canadian-made aircraft sold in the U.S. if Canada did not act quickly. He shared this message on Truth Social.
Thousands of Planes Could Be Affected
More than 5,000 aircraft made in Canada are registered in the United States, according to Cirium. Many airlines and private owners could face higher costs if tariffs take effect.
Experts say the Federal Aviation Administration may not have the legal power to cancel certification for trade reasons. The agency usually acts only on safety issues.
White House Responds
A White House official said Trump does not plan to cancel approval for planes already in service. The focus remains on future aircraft approvals.
