The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has joined Rwanda and the global community to mark the 32nd anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
During the genocide, more than one million innocent people were killed in just 100 days. Therefore, this commemoration remains a powerful moment of reflection for the world.

Rwanda Begins Week of Mourning and 100 Days of Remembrance
On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Rwanda began the national week of mourning. At the same time, the country launched 100 days of remembrance activities.
During this period, Rwandans honor the victims and support survivors. In addition, communities reflect on the lessons of history. As a result, the nation strengthens its commitment to prevent such crimes in the future.
UN Calls for Action Against Hate and Violence
In a message shared on X, António Guterres paid tribute to the victims. He also honored the strength of survivors.
He said: “We pay tribute to the innocent victims and honor the survivors.”
Furthermore, he called on people everywhere to take action against hate and violence.

A Global Message: Learn from History
Guterres stressed the need to learn from past mistakes. He warned that hate speech and false information can lead to violence.
He added: “We must protect those who are alive by combating hatred and countering dangerous rumors.”
Therefore, his message is clear. The world must promote unity, peace, and respect for human life. Only then can such tragedies be prevented in the future.
