The peacekeepers belong to the Rwanda Defence Force contingent known as RWABAT-2, currently deployed in the Central African Republic. Their participation in the activity reflects the mission’s commitment to supporting both peace and community welfare.
The clean-up formed part of a local initiative similar to Rwanda’s tradition of community work, where citizens and institutions work together to improve their surroundings.
Clean-Up Focuses on Improving Market Sanitation
The activity, organized by the leadership of Bossembele District, focused on improving sanitation at the Bossembele market, one of the busiest trading centers in the area.
Peacekeepers and residents worked side by side to collect and remove large amounts of waste that had accumulated over time in the market. Participants gathered garbage from different sections of the market and transported it to designated disposal sites.
The effort aimed to restore cleanliness in the market and create a healthier environment for traders and customers who visit the area daily.
Local Leaders Support the Initiative
Several local leaders attended the community activity, showing strong support for the collaboration between residents and peacekeepers. Among those present were the Secretary General of the Bossembele Sous-Préfecture, Kozimongo Georgette, the Mayor of Bossembele District, Semungubo Aristide, and the RWABAT-2 Commander, Laurent Kalisa Munana.
Their participation highlighted the importance of cooperation between local authorities and international peacekeeping forces in addressing community challenges.
Officials emphasized that joint initiatives like these help improve living conditions while strengthening the relationship between peacekeepers and the communities they serve.
Community Praises Peacekeepers’ Contribution
During the activity, local leaders praised the Rwandan peacekeepers for their commitment not only to maintaining peace and security but also to supporting social initiatives that directly benefit citizens.
They noted that such community engagement helps build trust between peacekeeping forces and residents. This cooperation creates an environment where communities feel supported and encouraged to work together for development.
Residents who joined the clean-up expressed appreciation for the peacekeepers’ participation, saying that their involvement motivates the community to maintain hygiene in public spaces.
MINUSCA Mission Promotes Community Development
The participation of RWABAT-2 in community work reflects the broader role of MINUSCA.
Beyond protecting civilians and supporting stability, the mission also promotes community engagement and local development initiatives. Activities like market clean-ups encourage residents to take responsibility for their environment and contribute to improving their communities.
Through such initiatives, peacekeepers continue to demonstrate that peacekeeping is not only about security operations but also about building strong relationships with local populations and supporting efforts that improve daily life in the Central African Republic.
