The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has issued regulations governing businesses related to tourism and hospitality during the 2025 UCI Road World Championships, which will take place in Rwanda from September 21 to 28, 2025.

RDB noted that Rwanda is delighted to welcome athletes, fans, and visitors from around the world for this international cycling competition.

To support the event and manage potential disruptions in road use, RDB announced that working hours for shops, various businesses, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs will be extended, allowing them to operate until 4:00 a.m. throughout the championship.

However, RDB emphasized that existing regulations—such as noise control and the prohibition of selling or serving alcohol to persons under 18—remain in force and must be respected.

All customers are expected to drink responsibly and must not drive under the influence. Alcohol must not be served to anyone who is visibly intoxicated.

In its statement, RDB stressed that, in collaboration with other relevant government institutions, it will monitor the enforcement of these guidelines. Those who fail to comply will be held accountable under the law.

These RDB directives come in addition to earlier measures, including the Ministry of Education’s announcement that nursery, primary, secondary, and university institutions will suspend classes during the championship to ensure smooth operations of the event.

Furthermore, public employees in Kigali have been advised to work from home or other locations using digital tools during the entire championship period—except for those in essential services requiring physical presence.

Private companies with the capacity are also encouraged to adopt remote working arrangements during the event.
