Leaders have launched a 30.4-kilometer water supply system in Nasho Sector. This project brings clean and safe water closer to thousands of families. For many years, residents in Kirehe District struggled with water shortages, especially during the dry season.
The new system now delivers reliable water to communities that needed it most. It marks real progress in improving daily life across the sector.

Clean Water for Over 15,900 People
The pipeline now serves more than 15,900 residents. It also supplies water to 20 schools and several health centers in Nasho and nearby areas.
Families can now access safe water near their homes. Schools have enough water for drinking and sanitation. Health centers can provide safer and cleaner services. With better access to clean water, the community can reduce waterborne diseases and improve public health.
Strong Partnership Behind the Project
The Government of Rwanda worked closely with WaterAid Rwanda to complete the project. Together, they aimed to expand access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene services.
During the inauguration, Japan’s Ambassador to Rwanda, Fukushima Isao, praised the cooperation between Rwanda and its partners. He said clean water supports health, education, and economic growth. He added that strong partnerships help communities achieve lasting development.
Saving Time and Improving Livelihoods
Kirehe District Mayor Rangira Bruno said the project supports other development efforts in the district. He explained that residents, especially women and children, used to walk long distances to fetch water.
Now families save many hours each day. Women can focus more on farming and small businesses. Children can attend school on time and concentrate on their studies. The project not only provides water but also creates new opportunities for growth.
Better Hygiene and a Healthier Community
With steady access to water, families can maintain better hygiene at home. Communities can also keep public spaces clean. This is especially important during dry seasons, when water shortages often increase the risk of disease.
Residents have welcomed the new system with joy. Many describe it as life-changing. The project improves health, supports education, and strengthens livelihoods. It also moves Rwanda closer to its goal of ensuring clean water for all citizens.
