During the 32nd commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994 at Kizuguro genocide memorial, Minister Dr. Bizimana Jean Damascene calls Rwandans to explain this history clearly without adding or removing anything.
Honoring Those Who Rescued Victims
He stated that “those who rescued Tutsi during the Genocide against the Tutsi are a pride of Rwanda and should serve as role models to others”. He emphasized that no value should be given to those who trivialize or deny the Genocide against the Tutsi.
Lessons from Rwandan Proverbs
He continued by referring to Rwandan proverbs, saying: “Those who lack knowledge are destroyed by their ignorance,” and
Utazi iyo ava ntamenya iyo ajya “(One who does not know where they come from cannot know where they are going).” He added: “We must explain this history clearly so that no one will ever manipulate it again.”
Warning Against Division and Historical Distortion
He further warned, saying: “You may hear about the son of Juvénal Habyarimana appearing, claiming he was left in Congo and that he wants to return the country to how his father left it. Be aware, be careful no one should follow him. The pact we have with the Inkotanyi who stopped the Genocide against the Tutsi is the pact that must remain forever. It should guide us every day, and each person should make it their direction. Nothing else should mislead us.”
In Kiziguro Genocide Memorial, more than 20,183 victims are buried in and other three victims received a dignified burial on this 11 April 2026
