On Friday, President Paul Kagame received the President of the Council of Ministers of Togo, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, at Village Urugwiro. President Gnassingbé is also the African Union–appointed mediator tasked with facilitating dialogue to address the ongoing crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

High-Level Engagement with AU Panel of Experts
Following their bilateral meeting, the two leaders held discussions with members of the African Union Panel of Experts. The panel included former African heads of state, among them Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, Sahle-Work Zewde of Ethiopia, Festus Mogae of Botswana, and Catherine Samba-Panza of the Central African Republic.
Focus on Insecurity in Eastern DRC
The discussions centered on the persistent insecurity in eastern DRC and its effects on regional peace and stability. Leaders reviewed progress achieved through ongoing diplomatic efforts and stressed the importance of sustained dialogue as a peaceful path toward resolving the conflict.

Strengthening Regional and Continental Mediation Efforts
The meeting also explored ways to enhance coordination between regional and continental mediation initiatives. Participants agreed that stronger collaboration remains essential to achieving lasting peace and stability across the Great Lakes region.
